Creative Communications Manager

     

Location: San Diego, CA

Hours: Full time (with nights and weekends as-needed)

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

The Waitt Institute works to support sustainable ocean management working closely with governments, communities, local stakeholders, and nonprofits in 8 countries around the globe. 

The Waitt Institute seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and self motivated individual to help manage creative projects and media development across our programs including video projects, graphic and report design, website management, animations, and more. This role will combine storytelling, messaging, and design to elevate our partners’ stories and communicate program milestones and messages. You will work under the guidance of the Communications Director and in partnership with creative contractors to see creative projects from ideation to completion. This role will involve close collaboration with international partners and programs. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities. The position may include international travel to program countries.

The Waitt Institute is a team of international experts working around the globe to protect the world’s oceans and support coastal communities. The Institute is working with 10+ national and territorial governments to create sustainable ocean plans to help improve local livelihoods and economies while safeguarding marine life and ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage creative projects, progress, timelines, budgets, and approval processes

  • Develop creative briefs, storylines, shot-lists, interview questions, and concept notes

  • Work closely with internal team, international partners, and creative contractors to create media deliverables including but not limited to graphics, video projects, reports, websites, and more

  • Lead media and file organization 

  • Develop templates and workflows for streamlining processes with external creative contractors

  • Plan logistics for campaigns, travel, and media distribution

 

Professional Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of demonstrated expertise in managing creative projects

  • Organized and strong attention to detail

  • Excellent time and project management skills

  • Experience writing creative briefs, scripts, shot-lists, and concept notes

  • Passion for storytelling through different creative mediums

  • Strong media management skills 

  • Understanding of Adobe Suite programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, Premiere) as well as Google and Microsoft Suites (Google slides, PowerPoint, etc)

  • Reliable, responsive, adaptable, and comfortable working across time zones

  • Bachelor’s degree (Graduate degree preferred) or equivalent in media, communications or similar

  • Experience using project management software such as Asana, Slack, Google Suite and Dropbox

  • Understanding of ocean/environmental issues and solutions
